The Transition to College!
One’s first thoughts when they think of a university’s “Dean of Students” is most of the time related with the same ideas of the responsibilities of a principal in their previous schooling. While this person does take care of business concerning misconduct, they are much more than that. Our Dean of Students, Dr. Brett Carter, and his staff are here to support you through the transition of becoming independent and successful young adults. They promote a culture of care, and the university’s 5 core values: honesty, trust, fairness, respect, and responsibility. If you find yourself in distress, suffering from crisis, feeling homesick, or have questions about anything concerning UNCG, you can get in contact with one of the designated staff through the Dean of Students’ Office who will help you with the particular situation. You can either contact Student Services Manager, Allen Rogers (allen_rogers@uncg.edu), or call the Dean of Students Office (3363345514) to ask questions or make an appointment to meet with a staff member.
Walk-in visits are also welcome: The office is located on the 2nd floor of the Elliott University Center. The staff or the website (http://sa.uncg.edu/dean/) can lead you to the right resources or people to help you with the college transition. There are also opportunities for you to help other students with their transition, and a representative from the Dean of Students Office can provide you with this information. Help them make an impact on you so that you can make an impact on others.
