Awesome things that come along with being a guarantee scholar!
You might think that being a Guarantee Scholar just means you get to attend the best university in all of the land for free! While that MAY be one of the biggest portions of the scholarship on the surface, there’s so much more that goes into being a guarantee scholar! Being a guarantee scholar is so much more than just a full ride to college. It means something different to every one of us, and something similar to all of us.
There are a lot of cool things that we get as benefits to being Guarantee Scholars.
Our scholars get the awesome privilege to have certain fees waived.
Your housing application fee (The $200 Dollar one) can be waived!
You get free Spartan card replacements. Where normally it would cost $20 or $5 to replace a lost, stolen, or damaged Spartan card, it’s free to us as scholars! (Don’t abuse the benefit though!)
Guarantee Scholars get a head start on what it means to Do Something Bigger Altogether.
Starting during the welcome week program, your Guarantee Cohort will have a service project set up for you all to do. This is a time when you’ll be volunteering and giving back to the greater Greensboro community and taking part in one of the corner stone elements of UNCG community life: Service. This is also a great start to your service hours which will count towards your Bronze Leadership Challenge!
The Bronze Leadership Challenge
The class of 2019 Cohort was the first cohort to finish the Bronze Leadership Challenge as a cohort. The challenge is designed to help you learn about yourself and others and how to be a better leader! You’ll have the AMAZING opportunity to complete the whole bronze level challenge your first year at UNCG.
Retreats! Who doesn’t love a break from school? Why not a trip to the mountains? Well, being a guarantee scholar, you get to go on super exciting, fun retreats in the fall and spring. These retreats are when you’ll go through parts of the Leadership Challenge, bond with your cohort, make long lasting friendships, and really connect with the people who you’ll be sharing your 4 years with!
As I’m sure you know, there’s way more to being a Guarantee Scholar than just a bunch of benefits. The people you’ll share the scholarship with and the people in your cohort are like a family. We’re all here for one another, and no matter what, there’s always someone from guarantee. No matter what the problem is!
