Having Trouble in Class?

Coming out of high school, I thought college would be a breeze! No problems academically, just be friendly to teachers, go to class, and turn everything in. Sounds legit, right? Well, unfortunately, it wasn’t quite that easy.

There’s a lot more that comes along with taking college classes (even if you took A.P. classes in school) that you don’t expect to run into. Some professors will have their own ways of teaching and grading that don’t fit the way you’ve lived by previous. But, luckily for us at UNCG, we have so many resources to help us get through the struggles!!

First and most importantly, is the Tutoring and Academic Skills Program. (T.A.S.P) This is a place you can go to get FREE tutoring on almost any of your classes. You can also go to S.I.P. (supplemental instruction program) for other classes, which is in addition to what you’re learning in class and is designed to help you understand it better.

Secondly, there are many opportunities to form Study Groups. Study groups are a great way to connect with peers who are in the same course and try to understand their methods and understanding. Study groups are great if you don’t feel comfortable asking a professor or tutor the questions, or you’re having trouble understanding their teaching.

Another great option is online resources.

There are a plethora of websites and resources online that you can use to research, tutor, and learn different styles, methods, or information! Scholar.google.com is great for looking up essay information if you’re having trouble, Youtube.com is full on tutoring videos, and many other sites are open freely for your use to help you through this!

Don’t get discouraged at the first difficult class you come across, college is meant to challenge you, just know that there are always other resources to help you. However, never be afraid to go up to your teacher and ask them for help or go to their office hours! They look for students to ask for help all the time, so utilize it!
